London Symphony Orchestra

Just bought two concert tickets this morning for LSO. I am not particularly keen to attend the Lang Lang one on 26APR, but then for HKD350 (second lowest price), I chose to give it a go, just to see whether he could handle Ravel's Concerto in G. Just learnt that his new name is "Bang Bang" - because he only knows how to hit the piano without a deeper understanding of the music he plays!

The second night's Mahler 5 is very attractive. With Berg's violin concerto as bonus, this is a treat! I very much look forward to listening to Daniel Harding, who is a young and sought-after conductor in Europe.

Steak House

Trying to find a really good steak house to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary. Thinking about Ruth's Chris Steak House at Admiralty or The Steak House Wine Bar and Grill at the Hotel Inter-Continental. Anybody been to these two restaurants before? Any other suggestions?

Tell Me on a Sunday

This is the song I am going to sing in the annual dinner. Not many people know this - the title song of one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's early musicals (1979), subsequently transformed into Act I of "Song and Dance" (1982). I have loved this song ever since I heard Michael Crawford sings it. Hilarious Lyrics by Don Black. I couldn't find the score of it until yesterday - an online sheet music provider, www.musicnotes.com, provided instant printouts of this song. It even provides transposed version.

Tell me on a Sunday

Don't write a letter when you want to leave
Don't call me at 3 a.m. from a friend's apartment
I'd like to choose how I hear the news
Take me to a park that's covered with trees
Tell me on a Sunday please

Let me down easy
No big song and dance
No long faces, no long looks
No deep conversation
I know the way we should spend that day
Take me to a zoo that's got chimpanzees
Tell me on a Sunday please

Don't want to know who's to blame
It won't help knowing
Don't want to fight day and night
Bad enough you're going

Don't leave in silence with no word at all
Don't get drunk and slam the door
That's no way to end this
I know how I want you to say goodbye
Find a circus ring with a flying trapeze
Tell me on a Sunday please

Don't want to fight day and night
Bad enough you're going
Don't leave in silence with no word at all
Don't get drunk and slam the door
That's no way to end this
I know how I want you to say goodbye

Don't run off in the pouring rain
Don't call me as they call your plane
Take the hurt out of all the pain
Take me to a park that's covered with trees
Tell me on a Sunday please

Singing in Annual Dinner

For some reasons, I don't feel like singing in annual dinners. I don't like people asking me to sing just because I sing well. I don't want it to be a casual event and people take it for granted. I just want to sit back and enjoy an evening.

Ivan Fischer's Mahler 2

Bought this two weeks ago. Listened to it just now. I haven't got an SACD player, but the sound effect of this Mahler 2 is truly amazing. You can listen to all the percussions, the organs, etc that you probably missed in previous versions. Although I think the climax was not built up as effectively as Rattle's CBSO unbeatable version (which is still the best), Fischer's contribution in this Mahler 2 is commendable. He took a relatively slow tempo throughout, which could be inspiring at times (except for the 2nd movement, which is a dance and therefore should not be too slow).

The price of this CD is outrageous. But then, it is an SACD. And being a Mahler fan, and a Mahler 2 fan in particular, I could not help but bought it. Good to have listened to something new in this version.

Definition

Just want to know, how do you define a "中年人"?

This is an interesting story copied from another blog. A long one, but worth reading.

==========

==========

==========

 ==========

==========

==========

Goldberg Variations for String Trio

Bought this from Pro Sound yesterday without a thought, as I love Goldberg Variations. I haven't finished it yet (baby crying, etc), but I have the feeling that I will still love the Glenn Gould piano version more. This would a very interesting recording that I will definitely spend some time to listen to, not to mention the players are all well respected soloists - Nobuko Imai, Mischa Maisky and Julian Rachlin.

What a night!

My baby was so well-behaved last night! He slept most of the time (if I held him) from 10:00pm to 12:30am. I fed him 2.5oz milk powder at 11:30pm and finished at around 12:15am, burbed him for 15min and put him to bed. He slept right through to nearly 5:00am this morning. What's more, I didn't even change a diaper last night!

Hey! Hey!

Just bought this DVD set, which has been a hot topic recently. I want to watch it very much but just wonder when I will have the time, given the new situation at home...

Frustration

I carried my baby starting from 9:30pm last night. He wouldn't sleep and kept crying once I put him on his bed. This carried on for 4 hours until 1:30am. During these 4 hours, I changed 5 diapers for him, fed him two bottles of milk powder, burbed him for over 1 hour at least, etc. When I was just finishing the final diaper, he peed right in front of me. I lost my patience and yelled at him. My wife came out and took over from me. I went to bed straight away, but couldn't sleep for half an hour...if I could cry, I would have cried.

I thought my EQ has improved dramatically in the past 4 weeks. But I was wrong. I was still the old me. I lost my temper just as easily. I was frustrated and exhausted. I felt so bad that I treated my son that way. I felt so guilty.

Now I know why people beat up their kids, or throw them out of the window, or even kill them...

Lladro

One of my ex-customers (actually his wife!) sent me this gift for my baby. Nice gift. Being realistic and materialistic as I am, I couldn't help wonder whether I could return it in exchange of cash! It is a work of art - no doubt about it. But I can hardly find a place for it in my small flat. What am I going to do with it now?

For your information, this sculpture costs EUR190! Here is their website:

Non-Stop Feeding

Why is our baby eating on a non-stop basis and why does he refuse to sleep until it is 2am in the morning? Ironically, he has not been gaining any weight and we start to worry about him...
