李傳韻 's violin recital

I went to 李傳韻's violin recital last night. This is the first time I saw him on stage. He was wearing a tux, which made him somewhat difficult to move. His appearance was admittedly not very attractive. But once he started playing, you'll be attracted to the sound he produced.

He has a good technique, but it is not always consistent. He has a straight forward character, which enabled him to build up rapport with the audience.

The choice of programme was very much to show off his virtuosity. But I think if he reshuffle it a little bit - putting Bazzini's piece at the end of the programme would have been better. But then, this is the usual arrangement. Li is no usual violinist.

青介的童話之賣火柴的女孩

I went to see this "musical" last night. A good try from Wasabi. Although the acting and music were quite raw and the roduction was not very complicated, I did enjoy it. But the price was on the high side. It would have been more reasonable if the price is set at somewhere like $100 to $150.

Blogging

It seems that there is only one reader in this blog. Sometimes I wonder why I am writing it. Perhaps it is for self gratification.

Pen-friend

I had a pen friend through email back in university. We exchanged mails nearly every day. She was such a close friend of mine although we have never met. As I was in the UK and came back to HK and she seemed to have stayed in Berkeley, we lost contact after I graduated. I was thinking if I could ever find her again, it would be wonderful. But the question is: how?

Philadelphia Orchestra

Thought of going to this concert but I don't like Lang Lang (and he is playing Tchaikovsky No.1, which I don't really like). Mahler's No.1 on the second night is OK, but conducted by Eschenbach? No way. He is not a Mahlerian. And the ticket price was way above what normal people could afford. Why should I pay $780 for the best seats while in the UK, they only charge something like 40 pounds? So I decided to give it a pass.

Salary Increment

Just received the salary increment notice. 8%. Not too bad, but I know somebody else in a different department got better increment. I wasn't too happy. I guess it is like what the Chinese saying goes, "Man not contented is like a snake swollowing an elephant". As a result, I am not very happy today.
