Non-Stop Feeding

Why is our baby eating on a non-stop basis and why does he refuse to sleep until it is 2am in the morning? Ironically, he has not been gaining any weight and we start to worry about him...

You can bring him to govt's maternal and child health centre nearby for checking and to seek advice from nurse or doctor there. The service is very good and is free of charge. Remember to bring針卡.

wow, x2 with tungpo's advice first.

BTW... you do know that babies "收水" in the first few days, right? So the "adding" weight should count from there. Don't worry too much at this stage, his stats should only be revisited at 1 and 3 months. If a baby doubles his weight by month 3, he's doing fine.

Have I referred you to www.babycenter.com before? Put in the date of birth of the baby and do a little bit of signing up, then you'll get synchronized updates along baby's growth. I used them quite a lot when FB and SB were born, and before of course (that was like forever ago...). Pretty informative and you will see parents of same week / month / age babies joining chatrooms and forums. They're mostly americans, but that gives you extra info in the baby-rearing department.

Oh, one more thing: treasure the feelings you have now, they are VERY precious a few months later when baby sleeps into the night. Without sleep deprivation and all these that come with the package, we as parents may never realize how much love we can chip in towards our babies. :D

Send my warmest regards to Mrs. Andy as well. She must have been rather exhausted!

Thanks both of you. He started vomiting a week ago. Now the situation is even worse - his weight remained at around 7.4Ibs (with clothes). Not very encouraging for all of us...

Vomiting? You have to 掃風 after feeding.

Of course I did the 掃風, but he still vomits. This is where the frustration comes in.

Don't worry too much. It's not that abnormal for your case (still vomit after 掃風). Does he eat fast? Try to break one feeding into 2 or 3 times. It will definitely tear parents' hearts to see your baby not feeling well. He's just 3 weeks old, of which the stage won't be stable yet. As for his sleep, you can only accept the reality that some babies are night owl! Cheer up :)

again.. adding somemore, you may not like the word: projectile vomitting is pretty normal...

You're bottle feeding, correct?

Mind if I ask which brand of bottles are you using?? If you're not already using it, I'll recommend AVENT. It's very good in reducing winds. (baby will need more effort to suck up the formula though and if he's already used to those thinner type, he may not drink from the avent nipples...)

Most of the time he is getting breast feeding from his Mom. Only when he take formula will he use bottles. And he is using Playtex, which is the kind with small hole and mimick the nipples quite nicely - my baby needs quite a lot of effort in sucking. So I guess I have already done my part...
