Emil Gilels

I still find his Beethoven's piano sonata the best after all these years. It is a shame that he didn't finish the whole set before he died. I can only think of Wilhelm Kempff 1950's mono recording a comparable alternative. Gilels is really unique.

What a pity that Gilels was unable to complete the cycle. In particular, he didn't do op. 111, which is one of my very favourite.

How about Schnabel and Claude Frank?

Of course I love Schnabel! He is irreplaceable. Haven't listened to Claude Frank though.
