Spending

Mad Dog talked about her spending in her blog.

My spending pattern is as follows:

我捨得花HKD1,500 per month on CDs.
HKD500 per month on Books.
HKD2,000 on HK Arts Festival.
HKD700 for a Berlin Philharmonic Concert.
HKD150 per month on Magazines.
HKD36 each day on Taxi (morning only, but increasingly in the evening as well)
HKD2,000 on dining out each time (with wife - 1 to 2 per month)
HKD1,500 on shirts (5 tailor-made shirts every 6 to 9 months; HKD300 max. each)
HKD898 each on suits - 2 per year (extremely cheap, tailor-made in Central)
HKD1,200 on shoes every 6 to 9 months (except when they are Edward Green, 我會捨得花 over HKD4,500)
我只捨得花less than HKD500 on cell phone (current model: Nokia 1100, with no camera, no colour mon, no nothing! My maid may have a better model than I do!)
HKD50 on hair cut per month, could be free if Mom cuts for me.
HKD300 per tennis lesson per week.

Haven't got any new tie in the past 3 years!

Hi-fi - no extra spending apart from those one-off investments already made.

No facial, no spa, no massage, etc.

Where has the balance of my salary gone?

P.S.

Patek Philipe watch
Mark Levinson amplifiers
Hermes Ties
John Lobb Bespoke shoes
1,200 sq ft flat at mid-levels

In fact, I really don't understand why I cannot afford to buy a 1,200 sq ft flat at mid-levels. My household income is not exactly low, but still I can't afford it. Who buys them? All businessmen or Mainland Chinese?

Mad Dog: I know, but would the quantum be sufficient to cover the whole high-end property market?

Hermes ties are of course less expensive than Patek Philipe watches, but for a tie, they are luxurious!

In fact, I much more prefer Marinella ties, but can't get it in Hong Kong.

"less than HKD500 on cell phone & $50 on hair "

My hair is short and I don't need all the functions of those cell phones (changing my mind on the camera function after my baby was born).

HKD898, tailor-made suit. That's unheard of.
Is it made of wool or some other material? Regardless, HKD898 is such a bargain.
Do you mind to let me know the name and address?
Many thanks.

Many thanks, Andy.

Probably will check it out next time I visit Hong Kong.

Congratulations on being a new father (relatively speaking). It's not easy but I guess it's worth the effort. Hang in there.

Men take great pride in finding cheap haircuts, I know I do. I am old enough to know how to comb my hair, I don't need a stylist.

Take care and thank you again.

A friend's father says, '買得起衫就買唔起衣櫃裝衫,買得起衣櫃就買唔起間屋裝衣櫃' which is so true.

When you can afford a flat at the mid-levels, you will hate lining up for a long queue to get a taxi during office hours. And then you realise that you will need a driver.
